Broken Arrow PAC Brings JazzReach to the Rose District for an UPCLOSE Educational Experience

New York City’s nationally recognized JazzReach is visiting the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center for an UPCLOSE, once-in-a-lifetime multimedia educational concert. Presented by the Broken Arrow Arts and Humanities Council in cooperation with the BAPAC, UPCLOSE gives the audience an opportunity to engage and share the stage with JazzReach on Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

“This is our heritage. This is our culture. This is our music. This is Jazz!” Founder of JazzReach Hans Schuman said.

jazz-reach-logoCelebrating their 20th anniversary, JazzReach is “dedicated to the promotion, performance, creation and teaching of jazz music,” according to the JazzReach website. Their multi-media educational program “Stolen Moments: The First 100 Years of Jazz” highlights the music’s vast history, while emphasizing ways that jazz has influenced other music genres.

The program is carried out exclusively by the critically acclaimed Metta Quintet, JazzReach’s official resident ensemble. Metta Quintet is devoted to furthering arts education by performing original jazz masterpieces from the great American songbook through the integration of live performance, captivating video, lighting and sound.

Comprised of some of the most phenomenal jazz artists, the quintet released its brilliant debut recording “Going to Meet the Man” in 2002, inspired by short stories written by American author James Baldwin. The quintet’s second album “Subway Songs,” released in 2006, was inspired by the New York City subway experience. Their latest and globally-themed “Big Drum/Small World” was released in 2012 and explores the “globalization and ever-broadening definition and sound of jazz.”

“The JazzReach program will be an unforgettable and unique experience for all ages,” BAPAC Executive Director Mark Frie said.

Tickets for the show are $20 plus a facility fee and are available online at brokenarrowpac.com.  Tickets can also be purchased at the PAC Box Office located at 701 South Main in downtown Broken Arrow or by phone at (918)259-5778, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
