A Day In The Life of A Tulsa Jazz Fan

jazz blue

If you are a jazz fan in Tulsa, Oklahoma Sunday June 28th must have felt like Christmas.

To start your day you had the choice of going to the Polo Grill at 10 30 am, for and early brunch while listening to Mark Bruner or if you wanted to sleep a little later  head over to Hey Mambo, closer to noon, for a Gypsy Jazz brunch with Jordan Hehl and the crew.

After filling your tummy with all sorts of deliciousness, you then had the choice of swinging over to the Guthrie Green to hear Shelby Eicher and others perform or heading down to the Tulsa Spotlight Theatre and lend your support to their “Jazz on the River” fundraiser, a quality event for a quality group of people.

Jazz on the River

Now it’s 4 oo pm and you have some more choices to make. You could either walk off the late brunch by  strolling along Riverside Dr enjoying some absolutely beautiful weather or find a spot for a early dinner somewhere among all the choices in the Blue Dome District….decisions, decisions. 🙂

At 5 00 pm the music resumes at The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame with the Modern Oklahoma Jazz Orchestra featuring Greg Abate and his Quartet. As if that weren’t enough there was more jazz at 5 30 pm with the Mike Cameron Collective featuring Annie Ellicott at East Village Bohemian Pizzeria, so many options, so much fun, the music seemed to just kept going, and going, and going…

Some people just couldn’t get enough and went to both events, since the Oklahoma Jazz HOF’s concert ended at 7 00 pm and the show at East Village Bohemian Pizzeria ended at 8pm. Yes sir, Tulsa Jazz fans are something else aren’t we? 😉

Wait, we’re still not finished…

Bodean Seafood Lounge rounded out the day by serving up some delicious jazz from 7 00 to 10 00 pm with the Jack Wolfe Quartet which included Dean Demerritt and Wade Robertson who earlier in the day performed at the Tulsa Spotlight Theater.

So there you have it, a day in the life of a Tulsa Jazz fan, does it get any better than this?…we don’t think so 🙂

For more upcoming “Christmas like” days check out our Events Around Town  page so you won’t feel left out any more. Wait are those tears of joy on your face, we understand and you’re not alone, we feel the same way…you’re welcome 🙂

Stay Jazzy

International Jazz Day…A Look Back

FB_IMG_1430327710588Another International Jazz Day has come and gone but it’s impact will go on and on…

As I laid in bed last night, just after midnight, I realized how historic, fun, and impactful the day had been. As a jazz fan and professional in the music business you experience some special moments, an epic show, the big recording deal, landing a big name client, but few events rival 185 countries setting aside differences, joining forces and celebrating together like the events of yesterday! Jazz did that, that’s right JAZZ!

Note: There was an event held in all 50 states in the US!

700+ events around the world, plus an incredible concert in Paris of some of Jazz’s finest, took people away from their problems, issues, and conflicts for a moment and transported them to a place of peace, joy, and musical bliss…happy, happy, happy 🙂

Only music has the ability to do this, it overcomes cultural and language barriers, socioeconomic differences and allow people to come together in harmony like nothing else and jazz is leading the way.

We have put together a slide show of some of the event posters and people involved in the events of yesterday as well as a link to watch the incredible concert that took place in Paris.

As you go about your day, remember when you have those moments of “I need to get away”  grab your CD, Laptop/tablet, or smartphone and let music, especially Jazz, transport you to a faraway land, be your time machine and take you back to a special moment, let it soothe, move, and refresh you. Let it rekindle and invigorate your passion, and most of all most of all let it encourage you to share your love for music, jazz in particular, with others.

To borrow a saying from someone very special to me…Stay Jazzy!
