Will Rogers Downs Presents Inaugural Swing Festival

Round Up Boys partner with Cherokee Casino for swinging good time!

On Labor Day weekend, a new event takes over Claremore as western swing musicians from across the region gather at Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs for a rare Swing Festival north of the Red River.

The music and dancing kick off Sept. 1 at noon and runs through Sept. 4 at noon, offering locals the chance to slide on their boots and scoot around the Will Rogers Downs Event Center dance floor to the very best of western swing.

Musicians will perform from noon to 11 p.m. each day, with a dinner break every evening from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The Swing Festival features the Tulsa Playboys and Larry Lange & The Lone Star Troubadours on Thursday, Sept. 1. OnFriday, Sept. 2, Billy Mata & The Texas Tradition and the Byron Berline Band will take the stage. The Round Up Boys and Jason Roberts Band are on the schedule for Saturday. The Round Up Boys follow up Sunday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. to close out the weekend’s entertainment with a free gospel show.

A half-day pass is available for $15 and a one-day for $25. For the enthusiasts looking to enjoy the full calendar of musicians, two-day and weekend passes are available for $40 and $50, respectively. Tickets can be purchased on the casino website or will be available at the door during the event.round up boys

The Round Up Boys, a local western swing group, aligned with the casino earlier this year to make the idea come to life.

“I’ve been working for a year now with the fabulous ladies at the casino on this festival,” said Bob Fjeldsted, the lead singer of The Round Up Boys. “They have western swing festivals on every corner in Texas. This is the first one on this side of the river. We’re going to invite our Texas friends to come up and play with us and show everyone a great time.”

For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.cherokeecasino.com and click on the Will Rogers Downs tab, or call (918) 283-8800.

Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs is located 3 miles east of Claremore on Highway 20.

The Swing Festival invades Claremore Sept. 1 through Sept. 4.

The Round Up Boys warm up the Dog Iron Stage for a western swing festival coming up Labor Day weekend. The festival offers four days of live entertainment.
